parting lesson

Parting is
Such sweet sorrow
That I shall say
Good night till it be

Tomorrow

What is a sherku

This is a "found" poem. The words were written by William Shakespeare. I gave them this format.

This was prompted by the news that the Joyful Jubilant Learning blog is ending

cold morning

trees rustled
before the wind
froze your back
the leaf danced
and slid
between the rails

sounds of light

coo, coo
sounds of light
brings sounds of sight
did I hear you
jump to the
conclusion?

sherku: cooing

if we could
coo to ask
they could coo
to say why
birds sit just so
on the wire

This was inspired by this photo of birds on the wire, downtown Franklin Thursday morning

deep in the side tunnel

"How does your light
shine in the halls of

the joy of shoveling

oh, feel the joy
a clear driveway
and the sun struggling
to break through
the gray clouds

sherku: virgin snow

just enough
snow to cover
just enough
light to hear
my shadow
take a step

sherku: I like snow

I like snow
it tells me
to go slow
noise dampened
I can hear
snow flakes falling

could tell
it's story

Promised Land

pit stopped near
Promised Land
driving home
to Franklin
in and out of
snow showers

What is a sherku?

Note: this is a new layout for sherku. I am deliberately deviating from the haiku-like origin of three lines and shifting to the more American 3-4 syllable phrase and running five lines to still reach 19 syllables overall. I'll acknowledge William Carlos Williams work as a key source for this change.
